Ukraine ministry · since 2015

Equipping those who care for a nation at war.

Chris and Rahnella’s first mission to Ukraine began in 2015, as Ukrainian pastors answered a new call to chaplaincy amid the realities of war and trauma.

250 Ukrainian pastors stepped forward to serve as chaplains.
The first invitation

Training chaplains for the realities they would face.

When Ukraine’s military opened the way for a chaplain corps, 250 pastors answered the call — despite having no pay, equipment, training, medical support, or evacuation protection promised to them. Yet few had received training in a biblical approach to combat trauma.

Because Chris and Rahnella had published Combat Trauma Healing Manual and When War Comes Home, Cru Military Ministry invited them to lead a three-day training conference. The books were translated into Ukrainian and Russian so the pastor-chaplains could learn in their own context.

Train the trainers

Resources made for Ukraine’s communities.

Through War-Trauma Healing Conferences across the country, Chris and Rahnella have equipped pastors, chaplains, military leaders, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, women’s ministry leaders, and refugee workers to bring faith-informed care into the places they already serve.

A wider reach

A growing network of trauma-healing care.

In 2018, Chris and Rahnella moved their international work to Reboot Recovery, an organization that gave them greater freedom to pursue high-risk ministry and focus on global expansion. Their war-trauma message has since reached Iraq, Armenia, Romania, Central and Southern Africa, and Ukraine.
